I hate Budgets!

I have been in my current job for almost a year now and I have to do something that I absolutely hate, preparing a budget. I know that when you are involved with sales that you must set goals for yourself and that I don't have a problem with. What I do have a problem with is the pressures of having to make these budgets. The other side of it is that I don't want to be sand-bagging it, I don't want to create a situation where I do well above my budget which sets the bar even higher the next year. Why can't they just let me go out and sell, and what my numbers are, they are.
